Secondary residence tax in France for non-resident
11 May 2011
To earn always more income, the French government decided today to propose to the chamber of deputies to approve a new law. As Sarkozy’s government have majority in both chambers, it won't be surprising if this law is applied on the 1st January 2012.
This tax, without a name for the moment, will be applied on all secondary residences of non-residents. The amount will be 20% of the rental value (rental value will be estimated by French tax administration).
The owners would be concerned whose French income represents only a low part of worldwide income.
The persons would be exempted during six years who emigrate having take up residence in France during at least three years during ten years preceding their transfer of place of residence.
The French government is expecting 176 millions euros income with this new tax.
We will inform you later, after acceptance by French chambers and once we know all the implications, on a solution for you to avoid this new tax.
29 July 2011
